Delphine Nakache

Biography 

​

Delphine Nakache teaches courses in the areas of public international law, immigration and refugee law and human rights law. She has researched and published on issues related to the human rights and security-based implications of migration, citizenship and refugee laws and policies, both in Europe and Canada.  Her main focus is on issues surrounding the protection  of migrant workers, asylum seekers and non-status migrants. 

 

 Prof. Nakache is currently conducting several funded research projects: 

 

- She is the principal investigator in a SSHRC-funded research (Insight Grant, 2018-2023) on pathways into and out of irregularity for temporary foreign workers in Canada (co-investigators = Dr Atak (Ryerson U.), Dr. Foster (Athabasca U.), Dr. Goldring (York U.))

 

-  She is a co-investigator  in a SSHRC-funded research (Insight Grant,2014-2019) exploring the intersection of security, irregular migration and asylum  (principle investigator = Dr. Atak).

 

-  She is a co-investigator in a SSHRC-funded research (Partnership Grant, 2013-2019) investigating the spectrum of employment-related geographical mobility and its consequences for workers, families, employers, communities, and all levels of governments (“On The Move”, led by Dr. Neis from Memorial U.). 

 

-She is a co-investigator in a SSHRC-funded research (Partnership Grant, 2018-2025) titled " Civil society and the global refugee regime: understanding and enhancing impact through the implementation of global refugee policy”, led by Dr. Milner from Carleton U.). In this research, she is leading the working group on "Protection", in collaboration with the Refugee Hub.

 

- She is a co-investigator in a France-Canada funded research (2017-2019) on the role of citizenship acquisition for immigrant integration trajectories in Canada and France (led by Dr Winter from the U. of Ottawa and Dr. Hachimi Alaoui from Université du Havre) 

 

 

Prof. Nakache  occasionally provides consultancy work for the United Nations and the Government of Canada.  She is an International Adviser with the International Detention Coalition.  In 2015-2016, she was a Visiting Professor at the Global Migration Centre (Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva) and in February-March 2017, she was a Visiting Professor at the Catholic University of Leuven's Faculty of Law.
