Mélanie Beauregard is a PhD student in sociology at the University of Ottawa and she has a bachelor and a master degree in sociology (Université du Québec à Montréal). Her PhD thesis is supervised by Professor Elke Winter (University of Ottawa) and is titled La construction discursive des femmes musulmanes. Une analyse critique des discours d’opinion médiatiques canadiens sur ces femmes [The discursive construction of Muslim women. A critical discourse analysis of Canadian media's opinion on these women] (provisory title). Inspired by critical discourse analysis, the sociology of racism and intersectional approaches, her research tries to understand how majority groups construct and represent, discursively, minority groups. For her PhD studies, she is a recipient of a Joseph-Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarship (Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council).
